Eight security personals have been martyred in line of duty and 18 others are still missing after an encounter with the Maoists in Chattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Saturday.
Yesterday, separate joint teams of security forces, which included about 2000 personals, had launched an operation of encounter in Bijapur and Sukma districts in the South Bastar forests, which are considered to be Maoist stronghold areas.
At about 12 in the afternoon yesterday, the Maoist launched an ambush which resulted in an encounter that went on for three hours.
On Sunday morning, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to CM Bhupesh Baghel to take stock of the situation. He also order for Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Kuldiep Singh, to visit Chhattisgarh to assess the situation on the ground.
“The centre and state will fight together and win too,” stated Home Minister Shah as per the released official statement.
