8 Indian beaches spread across five states and two union territories have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag certification.
The Blue flag certification is a globally recognised eco-label which is awarded by ‘Foundation for Environment Education , Denmark’ The jury comprises of members from prestigious international organisations like the UN, IUCN , UNWTO etc and awards certification under 33 stringent categories.
The beaches which have been awarded the certification are-Shivrajpur in Gujarat, Ghoghla in Diu, Kasarkod and Padubidri in Karnataka, Kappad in Kerala, Rushikonda in Andhra Pradesh, Golden in Odisha and Radhanagar in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Jury has also bestowed India with the third prize for ‘International Best practices’ for pollution control in coastal regions.
