8 Indian beaches get Blue Flag certification

  • 8 Indian beaches spread across five states and two union territories have been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag certification.

  • The Blue flag certification is a globally recognised eco-label which is awarded by ‘Foundation for Environment Education , Denmark’ The jury comprises of members from prestigious international organisations like the UN, IUCN , UNWTO etc and awards certification under 33 stringent categories.

  • The beaches which have been awarded the certification are-Shivrajpur in Gujarat, Ghoghla in Diu, Kasarkod and Padubidri in Karnataka, Kappad in Kerala, Rushikonda in Andhra Pradesh, Golden in Odisha and Radhanagar in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

  • The Jury has also bestowed India with the third prize for ‘International Best practices’ for pollution control in coastal regions.
