7th round of crucial Centre-Farmers Meeting today. Check the latest developments

  • As the fourth round of crucial meeting between the centre and the farmers is taking place today, at Vigyan Bhawan, there are a lot of expectations and hopes to resolve the ongoing farmer protests today.

  • The meeting began with the farm union leaders and the Union ministers- Piyush Goyal, Narendra Singh Tomar along with other representatives observing a 2 minute silence in the memory of all those who lost their lives during the farmer protests.

  • This meeting is important because in the last one- 2 of the 4 major demands of the farmer unions were agreed upon by the government. These were regarding removing the clause regarding stubble burning and the electricity charges. However, the major concerns of the farmers regarding the repeal of three laws and legal MSP still remains unresolved.

  • The core talks, thereafter, started at about 3pm, important updates to follow.

  • After the lunch, the farmer leaders observed silence due to the government’s persistence over not agreeing to their major demands.

  • Union Minister of State for Agriculture Som Prakash acted as a channel to begin the talks once again. Friction persists, discussions still on.

  • After discussions, deadlock over MSP and the three laws still persists between the Government and the Farmers' union. The meeting therefore, ended without a conclusion. Next meeting is scheduled for January 8.
