6 Assam Cops killed in border violence with Mizoram

  • Six Assam police officers were killed in a fresh round of violence that emerged at the disputed Assam-Mizoram border, informed Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

  • The CMs of the two states had also a verbal clash on Twitter where they posted different incidents of violence by residents of the other state.

  • Three Mizoram districts - Aizawl, Kolasib and Mamit - share a 164.6 km long inter-state border with Assam's Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts. There have been skirmishes at these areas of the border for years. Residents of these areas accuse each other for intrusion.

  • The Mizoram government had also constituted a committee for resolving the border disputes.
