55 dead in Afghanistan in a suicide bomb attack
A suicide bomb attack in a Shiite mosque in the Afghan city of Kunduz left 55 worshipped dead.
This is the deadliest attack in the country since the takeover of the Taliban and the withdrawal of US forces from the country.
The blast hit the Shiite mosque during the progression of the Friday prayers, which is one of the most important day of the week for Muslims.
Often targeted by Sunni extremists who view them as heretics, Shiite Muslims have suffered some of Afghanistan's most violent assaults, with rallies bombed, hospitals targeted and commuters ambushed.
