During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of India has released over ₹31,500 crores of the total allocated Disaster Response Fund (DRF) to the states and union territories.
The amount accounts for 50% of the total funds.
The amount has been spent for implementing COVID-19 containment measures that include setting up of quarantine centers, buying of medical equipment, providing for ambulances, and expenditure towards testing and tracing of cases.
Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and West Bengal have got the highest share of the disaster response fund.
