3 out of 5 Indians who got the vaccine jab reside in rural India

  • As coronavirus cases continue to decline in India, vaccination rates have started improving after days of initial vaccine hesitancy.

  • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said it was heartening to note that three out of five people vaccinated as part of the COVID-19 inoculation drive on June 21 were from rural areas, where the majority of the country's population resides.

  • According to government data out of the 8 million jabs received by citizens on June 21 nearly 64 percent of them belonged to rural areas.

  • Notably India’s average urbanisation rate is 35 percent approximately thus indicating the vast majority of people that reside in rural areas.
