2 Cities, Airport renamed in Maharashtra
What: Maharashtra's state cabinet led by Uddhav Thackeray today approved the renaming of two cities of the state: Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad to Dharashiv. The cabinet also decided to name the new airport in Navi Mumbai after DB Patil.
Background: This move comes as the Uddhav Thackeray led state government faces floor test to prove the stability of his government. Approximately 40 of the 55 of his party's MLAs have turned rebels towards him.
Why: Strategists state that this move comes at a politically crucial time. This can be a move apparently to be seen as true keepers of the party's Maratha-Hindutva ideology.
