10 Judges infected in unprecedented COVID scare in the Supreme Court
Official sources reported on Tuesday that an unprecedented severe Covid wave is spreading through the Supreme Court, threatening to disrupt its functioning, as ten judges have tested positive so far, and daily tests on Supreme Court workers are yielding an alarmingly steady 30% positivity rate.
So far, ten of the Supreme Court's 32 judges, including the Chief Justice, have tested positive for COVID.
"Two of the affected justices, Justices K M Joseph and P S Narasimha, have recovered and returned to work," according to the news agency's sources. As a result of the COVID infection, eight judges have been rendered non-functional, providing a significant administrative problem for CJI NV Ramana in forming a necessary number of benches to hear the reasonably urgent petitions.
